Mission Statement:

Mount Carmel’s Youth Detention Ministry provides monthly visitation in Christ to incarcerated youth at Alexander County Juvenile Detention Center in Taylorsville, under the supervision and direction of the detention center’s staff.

The main thrust of a volunteer’s work is to be present to these young people during a very stressful and often lonely time in their lives and to offer them the understanding and friendship of a caring adult. While there are occasional opportunities to provide individual Biblical counseling and support, if requested by a youth, the ministry is primarily a evangelization ministry. Children and youth incarcerated in the center range in age from 6 to 18.

Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age and must receive a background security clearance from the N.C. Department of Corrections . This ministry is scheduled every fourth Monday at 5:30 P. M.
