A Name That is Above Every Name
Series: Advent
December 27, 2020
Reverend Kevin Ussery
Philippians 2:9-11

The name of Jesus stands out over every other name. The name Jesus means Jehovah and salvation. The very mention of the name Jesus means salvation. God does not love us because Jesus died for us. Jesus died for us because God loved us.

    Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:21-25

It offends the culture to mention the Christ, but there is no Christmas without Christ. Who is Jesus? In the Old Testament a name stood for a persons reputation, fame, or glory. The word for name translated in the Old Testament literally means a mark or brand. People either loved up to their name or lived down to their name.

    John 1:1-14

John puts the greatest delivery of all time into human context. The first 18 verses of the gospel of John is the prologue. The prologue summarizes how the word was with God in the beginning. The word came into the spirit of time and history, then came into existence so that we could see Jesus in the flesh. The son of God was sent into the world to become the Jesus of history, so that the glory and grace of God might be uniquely and perfectly disclosed.

    Godly Understanding
    Series: Thanksgiving
    November 29, 2020
    Minister Daniel Locklear
    Philippians 4:5-9

God’s laws and commandments are being overlooked more and more as the world is growing further away from Him. We could all use some Godly understanding, especially in today’s world where wrong has been made right and right has been made wrong. Proverbs 3:1-8 explains just what God expects of us.

    Series: Thanksgiving
    November 22, 2020
    Minister Daniel Locklear
    1 Chronicles 16:8-36

We should all take a moment this Thanksgiving to give God some praise and thanksgiving for the cross. Upon which His son died so we could be set free. Our praise and thankfulness during the tough times will show others that feel hopeless, that He is in the tough times as well.

    1 Timothy 1:12-17

Don’t let anybody criticize you because of your youth and your inexperience. Whenever you tell your testimony, whenever you share your faith, always remember to tell them what you were before God got His hands on you. Sometimes we look down on people just because we didn’t go through what they are. But you better thank God for keeping you from having to go through it. He may not have brought you from it, but thank God that He kept you from it.

    1 Thessalonians 5:16-28

God is not going to bless an ungrateful person. You worship out of your experience. You worship God based on what He’s already done. The only way to truly and properly worship is out of what you have been through. When you know what the Lord has done, nobody has to beg you or make you worship Him. Because of your experience with what the Lord has done you come with a spirit of worship down in your soul.

    Luke 17:11-19

Thanksgiving must be added to faith. It is good to be thankful for material and physical blessings, but there are some things more valuable. You can’t pay for peace of mind. There are some things money simply cannot buy.

The Christian has a dual citizenship. We live here on Earth but our home is in Heaven. Every believers goal should be to get to Heaven. We want to see Jesus.

Life can sometimes present overwhelming moments. One moment you’re enjoying life, and then your next steps are leading you into quicksand. When you think you can’t go on any further and you feel like you are drowning in despair, don’t give up. Keep the faith. Trust God and believe in His saving grace.
