Authority – the power or right to give orders; a power to influence or command thoughts, opinion or behavior.
Power – the ability to do something or act in a particular way; the ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events.
Authority incorporates power, while power is only the ability to do something. Authority is given, while power is often taken or demanded.
